Building a Nation Together


The People's National Movement accepted an invitation from The Communist Party of China to attend its 1st Meeting of Political Parties Forum China - CELAC.

General Secretary Ashton Ford and Public Relations Officer Ronald Huggins are representing the PNM in Beijing China. The Forum is hosting Political Parties from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ashton Ford will make a presentation on Political Parties in the 21st century at the Forum. The delegation will also participate in panel discussions on Development Paths, Poverty Reduction and China and Caribbean States Cooperation.

This event is of historical significance to the People's National Movement as Dr Eric Williams made his first visit to China as head of state 40 years ago. This was the beginning of Diplomatic Relations between Trinidad and Tobago and China.

China is hosting over 27 countries with Delegations from ruling Political Parties of  Latin America and the Caribbean.

The CELAC forum will focus on collaboration among developing nations to overcome common challenges and work together on the basis of mutual benefit and mutual respect towards economic and social growth and development.

The delegation is in China at a time when Beijing has issued its first Smog Red Alert. The Forum started on Tuesday and will end on Friday.
